How To Have A Healthy Gut

healthy gut foodsDid you know that fermented foods act as natural fertilizers in which they provide nutrients and promote growth of healthy bacteria in your digestive tract?   For ages, we have used fermented foods to improve intestinal health. Fermented foods are also some of the best detox agents available, meaning they can help rid your body of a wide variety of toxins, including heavy metals and pesticides.  Examples of healthy fermented foods include:

  • Sauerkraut, pickles, and other fermented vegetables
  • Fermented dairy products, such as yoghurt and kefir made from raw (unpasteurized) dairy
  • Miso
  • Tempeh
  • Olives

Two things are clear:

  • Sufficient amounts of friendly bacteria are fundamental to your good health. It’s impossible to be optimally healthy if your gut’s bacterial balance is out of whack.
  • Your lifestyle –your diet, medications, the antibacterial cleansers you use, and other factors outside your control – are working together to compromise the number of lifesaving friendly bacteria in your digestive system.
  • Maintaining a good balance of gut bacteria through diet is one of the most important things you can do to increase your chances of remaining healthy and vital for a lifetime. Remember, a gut-healthy diet is one that is rich in whole, unprocessed, unsweetened foods, along with traditionally fermented or cultured foods.

bloating, gas, bad bacteria in stomach

When you consume junk food certain bacteria flourish and produce endotoxins, which your immune system detects and, interpreting these endotoxins as an attack, responds with inflammation. Your body changes its metabolism to redirect energy for “battle.” The result is overproduction of insulin, increased fat storage, dampening of your appetite control signals, and eventually obesity. The best way to reverse this inflammation and restore a healthy metabolism is by eliminating excess sugar and processed food, and adding more friendly, beneficial bacteria from naturally fermented foods.

Cultured Vegetables Are the Ultimate Superfood

Fermented foods are potent  detoxifiers and contain much higher levels of probiotics than probiotic supplements, making them ideal for optimizing your gut flora. In addition to helping break down and eliminate heavy metals and other toxins from your body, beneficial gut bacteria perform a number of surprising functions, including:

  • Mineral absorption, and producing nutrients such as B vitamins and Vitamin K2 (vitamin K2 and vitamin D are necessary for integrating calcium into your bones and keeping it out of your arteries, thereby reducing your risk for heart disease and stroke.)
  • Preventing obesity and diabetes, and regulating dietary fat absorption
  • Lowering your risk for cancer
  • Improving your mood and mental health
  • Preventing acne

“Our products are Natural, Raw and Pure – if we can’t make it with a few ingredients…We just don’t make it…. Welcome 2 Afrika. “

From the packaging, label and branding is a grade A+ along with the value of each product. She uses descriptions such as : “Powerful, natural ingredients whipped together with essential oils and Shea Butter, your feet will love you for it” and “A perfect combination, Cocoa Butter, Raw Shea Butter and Coconut Oil” and I agree!  She has African Pure Black Soap too.  Be sure to check out all her products here:  http://welcome2afrika.com

What Was Wrong With Me?

“I think maybe this story is just the beginning and the real story is yet to come but I just had to share. I signed up in December 2012, my cousin Stephanie Huffman asked me to so I did as kind of a favor to her. I really didn’t think much about it, it was around the holidays and as a Pastors’ family we were extremely busy. In January I called my cousin and told her I must be the 1% that Plexus doesn’t work for. I would later find out that the problem was actually me. I stopped my AutoQualification and actually threw away the leftover Slim I had – the fact that I had left over Slim should tell you something. (Shocking!!)

I started taking plexus again on October 24, 2013. I wanted to lose a few pounds, 10 weeks later my results have far exceeded my expectations! Not only have I lost a lot of weight and inches, I am no longer sick, I’m no longer on my thyroid meds, no longer on my hormones and no longer on my GERD/Acid Reflux meds!

375

I have spent the last year in and out of doctors offices and hospitals and had just about every test you could think of trying to figure out what was wrong with me. I had been suffering for a couple years with severe stomach and abdominal pain and discomfort, fatigue, and also debilitating headaches and zero sex drive. NO ONE could find anything wrong! After deciding to take plexus to hopefully aid in my weight loss I learned about candida overgrowth and the havoc it can cause to your entire body so I decided to do the candida spit test and boy was it ever present!

I immediately started taking the recommended Plexus products to get rid of it. The first few weeks I’ll admit were really rough, I learned I was going through what’s called die off symptoms, that included nausea, diarrhea, stomach cramps, severe headaches and body aches. I was determined to stick it out and see if this candida over growth had been the root of my problem all along and low and behold when the die off symptoms subsided I started feeling really good!

I was still a little skeptical that it could actually be what had been wrong with me all this time! But the longer I stuck with it the better I felt, I had more energy and felt like my old self again even my sex drive was better! I am now convinced that this was indeed my problem and now it is gone!

I feel amazing have more energy and my mood even seems to be elevated. These Plexus products have given me my life back and I will never stop taking them!

Three days into taking the Slim I decided to become an Ambassador so I could get the products cheaper and within 10 days I was a Silver Ambassador and within thirty days I was Fast Start Gold and started making some really good money with my advancements. Plexus has been a Blessing to me and my family and I’ll be forever grateful and will share my testimony and plexus products wherever I go!

Thank You Plexus!”

Stopping Eczema From Spreading

Winter skin dryness can wreak havoc on eczema. Eczema is a skin condition that causes itchy, red, and swollen patches of skin. The most common type is called atopic dermatitis. Everyday things in your environment — cigarette smoke, pollen, and even your clothes — can cause eczema to flare. Identifying and avoiding your personal eczema trigger, or triggers, is an important part of your overall eczema treatment plan. How to get rid of eczema

How to get rid of hand eczema. If your hands do this in the winter this is why….Hand Eczema can mean deep cracks, peeling, and blisters on your hands. To guard against this cold weather damage, protect your hands with a pair of gloves when you head outdoors. Wear  gloves every day in the winter to protect your hands from the environment and help them retain moisture. Don’t wool gloves because they can be itchy and irritating for eczema-prone hands. Opt for a leather pair instead.  Clothes made of wool, synthetics, or other rough materials may also cause eczema. Choose loose-fitting cotton clothes instead. Wash new clothes to get rid of dye residue or other irritants. Tags can irritate your skin, too, so make sure to cut them out of clothes.

Some studies have shown that dust mites can cause eczema, especially in kids. Keeping these eczema triggers to a minimum in your child’s room. To achieve this, getting rid of carpeting, rugs, and blinds — all of which hold a lot of dust — washing bed linens and curtains weekly in hot water, and giving the entire room a thorough cleaning once a week should be a part of your eczema treatment plan.

Many heating systems dry out the air indoors as they heat it, which in turn further dries out skin and exacerbates eczema.  Run a humidifier. Consider using a humidifier in your bedroom at night and in any other rooms where you spend a lot of time.

This body cream works wonders on Eczema! Moisterizing and winter skin symptoms. A study published in BioMed Central Dermatology found that when parents of children with eczema were properly educated and reminded to moisturize children’s skin with emollients, eczema symptoms improved significantly, as did the children’s sleep. Properly moisturizing skin is an important eczema skin winter tip. In the winter, you should use a thick cream. While you’re still damp, apply a rich moisturizer to trap moisture in the skin.  Be gentle on your skin — don’t scrub or rub too hard. Pat skin dry with a towel.  Make sure to apply the cream within 3 minutes of getting out of the shower or bath to lock in that moisture.

Stick to short, warm baths or showers during winter months is an invaluable eczema skin winter tip. Limit the duration of the shower or bath and avoid very hot showers or baths. They feel good but really dry up your skin by removing the oils from your skin that keep it hydrated.  Keep showers or baths as short as possible and use only warm water. Hot water can irritate skin and cause eczema to flare. Be gentle on your skin — don’t scrub or rub too hard. Pat skin dry with a towel.

Stick to gentle cleansers to help soothe winter skin and eczema. In the summer, you may be able to tolerate harsh anti-bacterial soaps,  but in the winter, you should switch to non-soap cleansers. Look for products labeled face cleanser or body bar and avoid anything with the word “soap.” Many ‘natural’ soap products are harsh on the skin.

If you have been in the cold, soaking rain or enjoying a little fun in the snow, shimmy out of those wet clothes as soon as you get home to avoid irritating winter skin and eczema. Wearing wet or damp clothes leads to excess evaporation, worsening dryness and eczema. Stay dry!  Just before you change into something dry, while your skin is still damp, be sure to moisturize again to help soothe it.

Why your children may have eczema in the winter…. itchy and red bumps.

Harsh ingredients in some laundry detergents can cause eczema symptoms. A fragrance-free, neutral pH detergent may be easier on your clothes and your skin. Then make sure you get all the soap out of your clothes by choosing the double rinse cycle. Be careful with other household cleansers, too. As part of your eczema treatment ,  look for natural alternatives for products with harsh ingredients. Wear rubber gloves if you have to use an item that may contain an eczema trigger.

Food allergies could cause eczema symptoms in people with atopic dermatitis, so talk to your doctor if you suspect this. There are several tests doctors use to diagnose food allergies, including skin prick tests and blood tests. However, a food challenge is the only way doctors can tell for sure if a food allergy is an eczema trigger.

Plexus Body Cream results with Eczema

To manage winter skin and eczema, aim for an overall healthy lifestyle. Get plenty of sleep and getting stress under control to limit cortisol production. Cortisol is the stress hormone which can lead to excess inflammation that worsens eczema. Choose nutritious, healthy foods, particularly those high in omega-3 fatty acids, like salmon, fish oil, and flaxseed. This helps replace oils in your body to keep skin protected and healthy.

THIS body cream is amazing for fibrocystic breast, rashes, psoriasis, excema and other skin issues.

Pain Relieving Foods

foods to relieve inflammation

For inflamation: Foods you can eat to help ease.

  1. Switch cooking oils to combat pain. A specific compound found in virgin olive oil may inhibit the activity of cyclooxygenase, an enzyme involved in inflammation and the development of cancer. “Many large studies have also associated it with lower blood pressure and lower body weight,” says Christopher Cannon, a cardiologist in Boston and co-author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to the Anti-Inflammation Diet. To take advantage of olive oil’s health benefits, use it in place of standard oil for grilling and sautéing, making marinades and salad dressings, and as a substitute for butter in baked goods. Just be sure that the label says “virgin” or “extra-virgin.” It’s your cue that the oil is from the first olive pressing and has not undergone treatment with heat or chemicals so it retains more healthy compounds.
  2. Pain Treatment Diet Booster: TempehMade from fermented soybeans, this food is rich in isoflavones, compounds that may help manage pain and guard against disease. The soy isoflavone called genistein reduced inflammation and pain in mice, according to an Italian study published in the European Journal of Pharmacology. Tempeh has a chewy texture and is rich in protein &emdash; use it in place of ground meat in soups, stews, and other dishes. (You can get this usually in the produce section near the tofu)
  3. Pain Treatment Diet Booster: TurmericThis traditional Indian spice, available as an orange-yellow powder, is rich in curcumin, which Bowden calls “one of the most powerful anti-inflammatories on the planet.” Research reported in the journalAlternative Medicine Review indicates that curcumin may have the potential to relieve inflammatory conditions like Crohn’s disease and irritable bowel syndrome and may also provide protection against cancer. You can add curcumin to your pain treatment diet byusing turmeric to flavor meats, vegetables and curries. However, since the spice is often added in such small amounts, Bowden recommends taking a curcumin supplement as well.
  4. Pain Treatment Diet Booster: WalnutsWalnuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which can lessen inflammation and reduce the risk for stroke and heart disease, according to Cannon. “A quarter-cup of walnuts contains 2.3 grams of omega-3s, which is about as much as 3 ounces of salmon,” he says. Research in the Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition also points out that walnuts have phytochemicals, which contain anti-inflammatory agents. To get more walnuts in your diet for pain relief, eat them as snacks, fold them into muffins or add them to salads and Greek yogurt for extra crunch.

Fibrocystic Breast Help

breast fibrocystic reliefWhat are fibrocystic breasts?

Fibrocystic breasts are characterized by lumpiness and usually discomfort in one or both breasts. The lumpiness is due to small breast masses or breast cysts. The condition is very common and benign, meaning that fibrocystic breasts are not malignant (cancerous).  This is the cause of “lumpy breasts” in women and affects more than 60% of women. The condition primarily affects women between the ages of 30 and 50, and tends to become less of a problem after menopause.

The diagnosis of fibrocystic breasts is complicated by the fact that the condition can vary widely in its severity. In some women, the symptoms of fibrocystic breast condition can be very mild with minimal breast tenderness or pain.   The symptoms can also be limited in time, usually occurring only premenstrually. It may not even be possible to feel any lumps when the breasts are examined by the woman herself or by her doctor. In other women with fibrocystic breasts, the painful breasts and tenderness are constant, and many lumpy or nodular areas can be felt throughout both breasts.

Fibrocystic Breast Condition At A Glance

  • Fibrocystic breast condition is lumpiness in one or both breasts.
  • Breast tenderness or pain are usually present in fibrocystic breast condition.
  • Fibrocystic breast condition is a very common and benign condition.
  • Normal hormonal variation during the menstrual cycle is the primary contributing factor to fibrocystic breast condition.
  • Fibrocystic breast condition is a cumulative process that mainly affects women over 30.
  • The foremost concern is not fibrocystic breast condition itself but the threat of breast cancer.
  • The lumps in fibrocystic breast condition can mimic and mask breast cancer.
  • Recommended measures for women with fibrocystic breast condition include:
  1. Learning about fibrocystic breast condition and its symptoms;
  2. Having regular breast exams by a doctor; and
  3. Having regular breast imaging (mammograms).

Are there any dietary or life style factors associated with fibrocystic breast condition?

Caffeine has been implicated as contributing to both the symptoms and scarring (fibrocystic) changes in fibrocystic breast condition. However, when the scientific evidence is reviewed, the results are conflicting, and no firm benefit of caffeine restriction has been be scientifically established.  In women with fibrocystic breast condition, it might still be worth a trial of caffeine restriction. (Note that coffee is not the only source of caffeine. Tea, chocolate, and certain soft drinks also contain caffeine.) There is no harm in trying caffeine avoidance, and there may some fibrocystic breast condition patients for whom it is beneficial.

Which women are more likely to develop fibrocystic breast condition?

Fibrocystic breast condition is said to primarily affect women age 30 and older. The reason for this is that the condition likely results from a cumulative process of repeated monthly hormonal cycles and the accumulation of fluid, cells, and cellular debris within the breast. The process starts with puberty and continues through menopause. After menopause, fibrocystic breast condition becomes less of a problem.

Relief for the fibrocystic condition:

  1. Anti-inflammatory medications, often reduce the breast pain significantly.
  2. Vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B6 and vitamin A, among others have also helped. In general, the rationale for using these vitamins is unclear and is not based on duplicated, controlled clinical studies. The exception may be vitamin E where, at least in some studies, there appears to be a measurable benefit for some patients.
  3. Another food supplement that has been claimed to be of some benefit in clinical studies is Oil of Primrose. This substance contains certain essential fatty acids that allegedly benefit some fibrocystic breast condition patients by reducing their breast pain. There is no evidence showing any correction (resolution) of the microscopic cellular abnormalities with use of this substance, but some women experience symptom relief with this supplement.
  4. Hormonal irregularities: Some women with very irregular menstrual cycles seem to progressively suffer more severe fibrocystic breast condition. This tendency is most likely due to the prolonged and irregular hormonal stimulation of the breasts. In these patients, it is sometimes helpful to establish menstrual cycle regularity with oral contraceptives. Regular cycles seem to allow the breast tissue to recover more completely at the end of each menstrual cycle.

In patients who have had a hysterectomy and who are on hormone therapy  it may be helpful to be “off estrogen” for five days during each monthly cycle rather than remain on continuous estrogen. Again, this schedule is designed to avoid the continuous stimulation of the breast tissues by estrogen. It is important that any such hormone regulation be under the direct supervision of a physician.

Certain common hormonal (endocrine) abnormalities, such as diabetes or thyroid dysfunction, may contribute to fibrocystic breast condition. Since these conditions may aggravate the symptoms of fibrocystic breast condition, they should be diagnosed and treated

Home Treatment

Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen (Advil) and acetaminophen (Tylenol) are usually effective at relieving the pain and discomfort experienced with fibrocystic breast disease. You can also try wearing a well-fitting, supportive bra to reduce breast pain and tenderness. Some women find that applying warm or cold compresses relieves their symptoms. Try applying a warm cloth or ice wrapped in a cloth to your breasts to see which works best for you. Proper nutrition may help in the treatment of breast lumps. If a woman smokes or drinks caffeine, she may want to reduce her consumption or eliminate these altogether. Although the evidence is inconclusive, some women have reported that their lumps subsided after they stopped smoking or gave up caffeine.

When the Breast Chek is placed on the breast, the bottom layer gently adheres to the skin and remains stable allowing the upper layer to slide freely underneath your fingertips. As the upper layer slides freely over the bottom layer, friction is greatly reduced. This results in what is called “sensory touch magnification,” meaning that your sense of touch is greatly improved, which leads to more effective and accurate breast exams.

What Do These Problems Have In Common

unhealthy gut symptoms and helpIf you want to lose weight, increase energy levels or just generally look and feel healthier you must have a HEALTHY GUT!

Health requires a gut flora adapted to your diet.  Those bacteria, the gut flora, produce all of your needed vitamins, eliminate constipation, block inflammation and control the development of your immune system, which takes place in the lining of your intestines in response to gut bacteria.

Your gut is much more than a food processing tube — it houses about 85 percent of your immune system. This is in large part due to the 100 trillion bacteria that live there, both good and bad to nourish your immune response.

IF you suffer from (or have suffered from) some type of  irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, constipation, diarrhea,  heartburn, reflux,  gas, just to name a few then here is your issue…. unhealthy gut.

You are not alone. More than 100 million americans have digestive problems!

When your GI tract is not working well, a wide range of health problems can appear, including allergies and autoimmune diseases. If you suffer from any major illness, you simply will NOT be able to fully recuperate without healing and sealing your gut.

Balancing the microorganisms that occupy your GI tract is a key part of maintaining your immune health. Constipation is a sign of unhealthy gut flora and can lead to autoimmune disease, allergy or food intolerance, but laxatives such as magnesium only fix the symptoms and not the missing essential gut bacteria.

Did you know that digestive problems wreak havoc in the entire body, leading to allergies, arthritis, autoimmune disease, rashes, acne, mood disorders, autism, dementia, cancer , chronic fatigue,  and more?

Your Stomach Actually Protects You from Infections!

Most people do not realize that 80 percent of your immune system is located in your digestive system, making a healthy gut a major focal point if you want to maintain optimal health. Remember, a robust immune system is your number one defense system against ALL disease.

This is because the nutritional root of so many health concerns are related to an imbalance of intestinal bacteria (the optimal balance is about 85 percent “good bacteria” and 15 percent “bad”).

Probiotics and Cleanses are helpful at certain times, such as when you stray from the food program and consume excess grains or sugar, or if you have to take antibiotics.  During the time of high sugar intake, excess weight increase over the last year or feelings of moodiness or bloating, brain fog are just a few examples why you may need help in this area due to yeast over growth.

The Vital Functions of Probiotics

The friendly bacteria that reside in your gut have a number of very important functions, including:

  • Digesting and absorbing certain carbohydratesWithout good gut bacteria, your body cannot absorb certain undigested starches, fiber, and sugars. The friendly bacteria in your digestive tract convert these carbohydrates into primary sources of important energy and nutrients.
  • Producing vitamins, absorbing minerals and eliminating toxins. Probiotics help in the production of both vitamin K and B vitamins, and promote mineral absorption. They also aid in metabolism and the breakdown of toxins.
  • Keeping bad bacteria under controlA large part of the influence of the “bad” bacteria is on your intestinal lining (mucousal barrier) that is over 300 square meters, or about the size of a tennis court. Simply stated, friendly bacteria compete with the bad guys for room and board, but since beneficial bacteria are more at home there, they win most of the battles for nutrition and attachment sites within your colon.

The good bacteria tell your body how much nutrition they need and your body responds by supplying just that much and no more – so that any excess bad bacteria are starved out. The helpful bacteria also produce a substance that kills harmful microbes.

  • Preventing allergiesFriendly bacteria train your immune system to distinguish between pathogens and non-harmful antigens, and to respond appropriately. This important function prevents your immune system from overreacting to non-harmful antigens, which is the genesis of allergies.
  • Providing vital support to your immune systemBeneficial bacteria have a lifelong, powerful effect on your gut’s immune system and your systemic immune system as well. The bacteria play a crucial role in the development and operation of the mucosal immune system in your digestive tract. They also aid in the production of antibodies to pathogens.

root problems of healthPoor health and most diseases have only minor genetic risk factors, but diet and gut flora are “inherited” directly and shared by the whole family.  When your doctor asks what diseases run in your family, she is asking about your shared gut flora.
